Instagram is a photo and video-sharing social networking service owned by Facebook, Inc. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and launched in October 2010 exclusively on iOS. A version for Android devices was released two years later, in April 2012, followed by a feature-limited website interface in November 2012, and apps for Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 in April 2016 and October 2016 respectively.
The app allows users to upload photos and videos to the service, which can be edited with various filters, and organized with tags and location information. An account's posts can be shared publicly or with pre-approved followers. Users can browse other users' content by tags and locations, and view trending content. Users can "like" photos, and follow other users to add their content to a feed.
As per TechCrunch reports, some new features are to be launched in Instagram's new version. Analysis of Instagram’s code has revealed several files that point to possible upcoming voice and video calling features. It will be making the app a bit more like rival Snapchat. Instagram is testing a voice and video calling feature, codes in it's Android app have revealed. While there is nothing official by the instagram, files namely “call” and “video call” with phone and camera icons respectively have been spotted in it's Android application packages (APKs). Though TechCrunch reported first, but prior to this, in January, WhatsApp industry blog WABetaInfo had hinted that Instagram could potentially allow it's users who chat on Instagram DM to also make voice calls.
There are many applications that provide voice and video calling facilities -- Facebook, WhatsApp, Google Duo. So, how it will add more value to Instagram?
In this world whwere we have a lot of social media apps, each one is trying that people should connect via thier portal. Instagram has adopted a lot of features from Snapchat and successfully developed them for it's users. Now, users have weekly highlights of their friends in their feed, daily Stories, Live asynchronous memes and messages in Direct.
There are many twitter users who are in favour and against this idea of instagram to bring the voice and video call feature.

Instagram is known to copy features from Snapchat like ephemeral videos and photos. It may also be possible that Instagram eventually not just end up releasing the voice and video calling features because APKs sometimes can house several abandoned app features too.
But if it does, it will resemble Snapchat even more. Instagram has already followed Snapchat’s disappearing photo feature in Stories, and made a massive success of it.
Instagram has over 800 million monthly and 500 million daily active users, while Snapchat has over 187 million daily active users, as per the Indian Express reports. With calling, Instagram will ensure that it's users will spend more time on the app regularly.
While it can be a topic of debate that do the world actually need one more calling app or not, but in the time of developing and advancing apps, or apps trying to be the ultimate full end social stop, Instagram cannot be blamed for launching such a basic feature.
