The 113th largest country of the world, Austria is known for its scenic beauty and cultural activities. Situated in Alps, Austria has enthralled the entire world with its beautiful museums and palaces which speaks about the country's architectural supremacy and celebrated culture.
It is the winter sports capital of Europe. Every year, tourists from all over the world flock to Austria to visit its historic cities and witness heaven on earth. Some such exquisite tourist spots in Austria are as follows -
1.Vienna
The largest and the capital city of Austria, Vienna show cases the rich culture and heritage in Austria through its coffee houses, palaces, museums, parks and gardens. Situated at 193m above the sea level, Vienna is the home to one of the largest emerald in the world and is also a UNESCO zone. In Vienna, the Schonbrunn Palace is a must visit. This 1441 room palace is a former imperial summer residence an disrenowned for its architectural and historic excellence. Other eye pleasing places in Vienna includes St. Stephen's Cathedral, Belevedere Palace and Vienna Zoo, the world's largest zoo.
2.Salzburg
Literally meaning 'Salt Fortress', Salzburg is situated in Central Austria. It is dominated by churches, palaces and castles and is the birth place of 18th century composer Wolfgan Amadeus Mozart. Salzburg is known for it's historic centre, Altstadt.
Altstadt is one of the best preserved cities and leaves every one awed by its unique architecture. It was also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Fortress Hohensalzburg, Salzburg Cathedral are also attractive tourist spots in Salzburg.
3.Salzkammergut
Situated near Salzburg, Salzkammergutis are sort area and are gion of alpine and subalpinelakes. Its most famous place is Hallstatter Sea, which is Austria's oldest and most photographed village. Flanked by soaring mountains, Hallstatter is famous for production in salt. This blissful place attracts tourists from every nook and corner and keeps them engaged with its beautiful view and scenery.
4.Grossglockner Alpine Road
Grossglockner Alpine Road is an exquisite 47.8km long mountain road. It was named after Austria's highest mountain, Grossglockner. It makes this largest mountain accessible and it leaves the traveller dead in his tracks with its phenomenal views at each bend of this highest surfaced mountain pass-road. It leads through the heart of Hohe Tauern National Park, towards Grossglockner. The road is normally open from the beginning of May till the end of the October. The entire journey on this road will become a life time memory of the person.
5.Innsbruck
Innsbruck is the capital city of Tyrol. It is renowned for its imperial and modern architecture. This city has conducted the 1964 and 1976 Olympics and is famous for winter sports. Ambras castle is a popular tourists point in Innsbruck. 587m above the sea level, Ambrasisa Renaissance castle and palace built in the 16th Century. Its lavish architecture makes it a must visit. Hofburg, Court Church and Goldeness Dachl are other marvellous locations in Innsbruck.
6.Zell Am See
Zell Am See is a town on Zell Lake, located south of the city Salzburg. Its a place surrounded by mountains, glaciers and lakes. It offers panoramic views, has the famous St. Hippolyte's Church. The town's pleasant weather makes it an important tourist spot of the country and its neighbouring town Kaprunis known for offering winter skiing.
7.Wachau
Wachau is a picturesque valley located in Southern Austria. It is surrounded by beautiful villages and blanketed by rolling hills. It is very famous for its giant and lavish monasteries and palaces. It is also known for its high quality vines. A well known place and tourist attraction of Wachauis Durnstein, where King Richard-the Lionheart of England was held captive by Duke Leopold V. It is the most visited tourist area of the Wachauregion. Wachau is loved by people for its bewitching and captivating views.
8.Saint Anton Am Arlberg
Located in Tyrol, it is a leading skiing resort destination for hikers, climber and sand trekkers. It offers legendary ski terrain to its visitors and is known as the gateway to Arlbergski region.
